Spiritual Direction
What is it?
Spiritual direction is a weighty term for a simple practice that dates back to the early days of Christianity.
Spiritual directors are individuals trained to companion people seeking a closer relationship with God and a life more in tune with God’s call. They do not direct, advise, rescue or fix; rather they serve as a safe container, joining with the directee in listening for the ways God is stirring in their life.
As trust in God’s love grows, they encourage and support the directee in responding to this gracious God who calls us all to fullness of life in God’s image.
Why do people come?
People come for many reasons: to be supported as they struggle to sustain their spiritual lives in the midst of the daily demands; to grow from believing in God as an abstract concept to experiencing God as a Living Presence; to discern a new direction for their lives; to learn new ways to pray; to heal from religious abuse; to grieve a loss and find seeds of new life among the ashes; to share their doubts and fears; to refresh their understanding of Scripture; to acquaint themselves with the teachings of holy men and women.
Hourly meetings are held once a month.
